Prof. Univ. Dr. Cosmin Sinescu

Cosmin Sinescu is a professor at the “Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timișoara, Faculty of Dentistry, within the Department of Prosthetic Technology and Dental Materials. His PhD thesis focused on new diagnostic and prognostic methods in dentistry. Since 2005, he has been a Visiting Senior Research Fellow in the Applied Optics Group at the University of Kent, Canterbury, UK. His ResearcherID profile is available at: http://www.researcherid.com/rid/G-1528-2011.

His main research interests include invasive and non-invasive, destructive and non-destructive investigation methods in dentistry, dental materials, bioengineering, biocompatibility, and optoelectronics. He was part of the research team from the Department of Propedeutics and Dental Materials that, in collaboration with UK partners, developed the first Time Domain and Spectral Domain OCT prototypes dedicated to dental applications in Romania. He also contributed, along with the imaging group, to the development of the first two OCT handpiece prototypes for Spectral Domain systems in dental medicine.

OCT applications in dentistry developed by his research group to date include: non-invasive flaw detection in metal-ceramic, metal-polymer, all-ceramic, and all-polymer dental prostheses; non-invasive evaluation of root canal treatment sealing; marginal adaptation assessment of dental prostheses (in vitro and in vivo); orthodontic studies; occlusion analysis; implantology applications; and non-invasive imaging of soft tissues in the maxillofacial area.

He has been involved in several national and international research projects, serving as Principal Investigator (PI) in four of them. He is a member of the working group of FP7 COST Action MP1005, co-author of several OSIM patents, and has published extensively in ISI-indexed journals and conference proceedings. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including SRLS, SSB, SRB, and SPIE.
